History
First Adventure was established in 1975 by a group of concerned citizens through the Bridge Street United Church, who not only recognized a lack of services for children with special needs or children at risk but also responded to this need. With the support of the community, First Adventure became the first pilot project for an integrated preschool in Ontario. In 1976, First Adventure became a United Way agency, receiving some financial support and continues to do so today. Although many funding challenges continue to face us, First Adventure remains successful through the continued financial support of fundraising, individual donations, municipal and community based organizations, and the United Way. The concept of integrating special needs children into the mainstream has evolved over the years and currently all children and families have access to a full range of community programs regardless of their individual needs. First Adventure is proud to have been a leader in this movement and continues to be responsive to the needs of the community.
